my headcanon there is that the whole "giving humans free will" thing was something bestowed upon humanity once its cosmic observers thought they'd evolved enough to be "fit" for it, whatever that might mean

my personal headcanon: humans arose on earth the same way they did irl - evolved from apelike ancestors. this however does bring up an interesting discussion of why hell isn't full of modern humanity's ancestors who could've had on-par sapience-
