I know Arsenal Women are champions of Europe, but every time I watch one of their games we look so, so bad. Maybe I'm just unfortunate, but feels like for all the hype and investment, we're a pretty average team overall.

I think Havertz plays some minutes against Alamty and they assess him from there. We did something similar when Jesus was re-introduced.

Luckily we have the luxury of easing him back in, rather than forcing him to play if he’s not ready.

I think the club saw him as an extra attacking body in the mix while Jesus/Kai were rehabbing. Now, fingers crossed, he can thrive on loan and come back much better in the summer.

Don't think this ends his Arsenal career at all.

Goodly morning gents! Are our attacking struggles down to:

• Having good but not amazing forwards?
• Arteta being a more defensive coach?

If so, do we need a dedicated attacking coach to join his staff? Like an “offensive coordinator” in NFL.

We can absolutely win the league and right now we’re the best team in the league - as evidenced by our position at the top of the table.

My point is I think our attack can still improve and nothing I’ve seen so far makes me think that Arteta “cracked” how to maximize our forwards’ output

Absolutely, but I don’t think one negates the other.

We can all agree that defensively we’re probably the best in the world right now

At the same time, having all our forwards combined score roughly the same number of league goals as Erling Haaland on his own is clearly a problem.

Havertz is a good player. Tactically smart, versatile, useful in different roles.

Part of the hype is recency bias. He’s been out, his replacements are worse, so he looks better than he actually is imo.

He’s not an elite striker. Solid player, sure. Tier 2 or 3 at best. Not in the killer bracket.

I’ll concede that there could be combinations of attackers that would work better as a unit and elevate the individuals we have, but as of now Arteta hasn’t figured out how to consistently make the best of the options he has up front.
January 18, 2026 at 1:15 PM
I wasn’t talking about formations necessarily - just making the point that beyond Saka none of our attackers are better than the majority of the players that top clubs have available to them up front.
January 18, 2026 at 1:13 PM
The best teams in the world, which is who were competing with, have stronger groups up front.

Haaland, Semenyo, Marmoush
Vini Jr Mbappe Rodrygo
Ekitike Isak Salah
Raphinha Lewandowski Yamal

That’s what we should be aiming for
January 18, 2026 at 4:18 AM
I think the problem is apart from Saka, our front line is average to good, not world class.

Next summer, we need to be ruthless and buy ceiling raising LW & CF, and sell whoever we can to make way.

Trossard, Martinelli, Jesus, Gyokores, Madueke are all upgradable.

Should we give MLS a shot in midfield, and if so, which position in midfield? Cuz he’s clearly struggling as a full back this season.

If we had to sell a defender next summer, who would you sell?

Which of our strikers will end up with more goals this season - Gyokores, Jesus, or Havertz?

Also, with Portsmouth's high press, surely this game is ripe for Big Vik to take advantage and run in behind. Jesus is more of a low block striker for me. Hopefully we see the switch in the second half.
January 11, 2026 at 2:52 PM
I know Gyokores seems to be a topic every week but wanted to know if you were Arteta/Berta, would you accept a cut price offer for him next summer and re-invest in a more elite, younger striker?

The output is not bad.
Gyokores is scoring roughly one goal every three games. Over a league season that is around 12 to 13 goals. That is fine when you factor rotation, adaptation to a new league, and a role that is not just about finishing.

#Arsenal did not buy a Haaland clone because those do not exist. They bought a functional, physical striker to solve problems in tight games. We can debate ceiling, but calling this a flop ignores context and basic math.
