The illusory truth effect is a well-studied and replicated psychological phenomenon that describes the fact that if a falsehood is repeated often enough, people will start to believe it. This has to do with familiarity – it’s easier to process information you’ve comes across previously.

Former US Attorney: Traditionally, the rule is that you have to have a reasonable belief that the person that you're confronting is not a citizen. But we've repeatedly seen ICE and seen this administration engage in this behavior based on someone's appearance, language, where they're standing

It's stuff like this that gives me hope in the U.S. and that we're not all a bunch of sh*t heads! I've seen a lot of decency by a lot of people standing up for what is right. It's just too bad those at the top just don't care.

This actually has been going on for over 100 years in the US. Any time workers would try to organize or speak up for living wages - they were immediately labeled as communists and squashed. Happened with coal miners in WV, farm workers in CA, etc.
