I designed a 2x2 1.7GHz patch array using CST and Keysight ADS📡 At this frequency and substrate thickness, the efficiency is quite poor, but it still picks up L-band satellites without a problem!! If, for any reason, you want this antenna yourself, see my comment on this post⬇️

Here is a comparison of the simulated and measured radiation pattern of my 2x2 L-band patch array📡 All field cuts show realized gain. Measured realized gain is about 1dB lower than expected from simulations.

It works in practice! A quick test of the patch array out my bedroom window with a GOES+ LNA and Airspy mini🥸

I had the opportunity to measure radiation pattern today! Efficiency is quite bad - but this is to be expected when designing patch antennas at this frequency with a 1.5mm thick dielectric 🤡 Will share some more information soon!
