Those last 7 words. That any of us could need the services one day. If only people who moan about their "tax dollars being wasted on welfare" had the empathy to understand that one bad day or one bad decision is all it takes to lead any of us towards those 7 words!
Sidebar. I like how the Department of Homeless Services always refers to the homeless as "clients". Have heard it from their staffers on the street or in subways too. It gives a certain dignity to the homeless. They are clients of services anyone of us might need one day.
NYC officially announced its first Code Blue of the season. It's when it gets too cold outside, generally defined as a full night below 32F/0C incl wind-chill.
This is why so many homeless come to it are bussed to NYC. It is relatively compassionate to the homeless, on a legal & procedural basis.
