That's not even a modern thing - you just need to take a look at some history. At least when I was at school the war poets Wilfred Owen & Siegfried Sassoon were required reading - both served in WW1 & their works are devastatingly anti-war

It's not really too great a risk - I don't know if any European democracies (there's probably one or two, but not many) have it, for example - either Monarchy or Presidential.

It was, but the Bollywood closing soundtrack & optics of having his dad & his mum (in a saree) at the end was an amazing touch. It got me & I don't really care about NY politics

Ed Davey does this so well. Politicos call it "stunts" - normal people see a politician who can relax a bit.
