I can almost guarantee part of the problem is debt from the private equity buyout in 2019. Makes it so much harder to get profitable again when you have to pay millions in interest alone every year

A more future-proof config would prob be a Pi 5 4GB with an NVMe adapter ($70+NVMe drive). May be overkill if this is all you use it for tho

And for a general Raspberry Pi setup guide, can't go wrong with the official one: projects.raspberrypi.org/en/projects/...

As for which Raspberry Pi to get, I'm not so sure. Maybe if Justin wants to chime in. Otherwise, I would probably recommend at least a Raspberry Pi 4 2GB with some sort of...

That's just the self hosting/ hardware/data sovereignty (aka data hoarding) nerd in me talking though. A cloud VPS would likely work just fine for your needs.

Imo it's not your data until it's on hardware you own. PDS supports arm64 so you could get a Raspberry Pi 3, 4, or 5 and use Cloudflare tunnels to securely host a PDS from home w/o exposing your IP. And if you need speed, Pi 5 supports NVMe drives. Or you could colocate a small server at a dc.

Lol, in Chicago stop signs are treated as yield signs by most drivers, and a red light isn't a red light until it's been red for 3-5 seconds. You legit have to look both ways when you get a green. Doing so saved my ass from gettjng T-boned a number of times.

Makes sense based on this report card I saw recently. MN is top 15 in every category except laws where it ranks 34th.

Most important to me is infrastructure, where MN ranks a solid 2nd, but we'll probably want to focus on boosting the categories that are lagging, like the laws.

A setup like this got me the other day 😵

Is it that hard to not drain directly onto the sidewalk?

Just posted the same before I saw your comment. I can confirm this to be true in my experience. Modern Windows does not like old PC games.

Maximum compatibility with modern PC games*

I've had a lot more success playing old PC games using Wine/Proton than with the latest version of Windows.

Meanwhile we bulldoze entire neighborhoods with thousands of people for a new polluting highway

Ultimately tho, we will need people to lead us in that direction. It's important to have these discussions to provoke thought about doing things a better way & pushing people to want to be involved in that change. So thanks for your post! It makes me hopeful to see more people thinking on this level

This discussion also reminds me of this recent video by Adam Conover about the history of politics and political parties. I think there are a lot of parallels between the two, and I think a lot can be gained by moving in this direction for many aspects of our society.

Despite that though, I hadn't really made the connection to the talking on the dancefloor discourse, but I think you're spot on there. It's really interesting how many side-effects there are to commercializing/consumerizing things that used to be more community oriented.

This entire thread really resonates with what I've been feeling more and more recently, but this part especially. I deeply crave a non-commercial space like this that can actually foster a real, connected community. One that is more than just the Friday/Saturday night spot too. A real third space.
