Nice! Those 1950s & 60s Sears/Silvertone amps were made by Danelectro. That's how Nat Daniels started in the business; building amps for Epiphone. The Silvertone amps are really nice and well made...once you change the 2-prong plug to 3--no electrocutions on stage!

WOW! Those are some amazing guitars! Where were they on display?
Thanks for sharing them!

Oh yeah, that...well nobody's perfect! ;-)
And, what's really wrong with waiving a gun around the recording studio for motivation!

Canada has nice weather in the summer! ;-)

Definitely, and it sounds great. The 50s were Danelectro's build up to peak guitar making!

It shows real character...ya can't make that in a shop today.

Yeah, it's serious in its simplicity.

Do you find Martin guitars tend to need repairs or are they generally more reliable?

Was watching Stranger Things over the weekend and they used the Tiffany version of "I Think We're Alone Now" during one scene. It took me a moment to remember that Tommy James & The Shondells did the original. It was a nice reminder of how great the original was.

Sonny & Cher were really wild in those early days!

Ovation didn't make large quantities of their electrics. So they're harder to find. I haven't seen any for sale in a long time. I think musicians are holding on to them. The "Westerly" period Guilds are something I've been exploring but haven't got one...yet.

I was going to write about how great the Patsy Cline museum is in Nashville but just checked and it closed earlier this year. That's really sad. Maybe I'll dredge up my photos for a posting.

Patsy was brilliant!

I was going to say the same thing. Def feels influenced by the Ovation electric guitars.

There's a lot of shows I'd love to relive. But, maybe these two at The Beacon Theatre in NYC are solid picks:
- Cocteau Twins - November 1990
- Nina Simone - June 2000

Thank you. I saw a spot on NY1 news this morning referencing the magazine. And was wondering who he was. It's a cute concept. I kept wondering how they shot that on the subway without crowds around.

Totally!
December 16, 2025 at 5:32 PM
I know what you mean. Some guitars really trigger the right notes! ;-)
December 16, 2025 at 5:30 PM
Yeah, one of the things I always keep an eye out for is a well used guitar. It usually means a musician owned, played, and took care of it. So they're usually in solid playable condition. The worn looks give it character.

Yeah, Phil was very influential back then. But, he's a crazy mf.
