try having kids whose lives would be wrecked if you got thrown in jail for desertion. this is what the right-wing is leveraging to be able to get away with this shit

blue jays have an awful bullpen so it's only a matter of time before the wheels fall off

I think people have broadly lost faith in government's ability to fix problems and improve lives. And if you don't believe that the government does good, why would you really care if democracy is under attack? To get people to care again, government needs to start being productive again.

this reminds me of that time Trump endorsed "ERIC" for Missouri senator

Jeez, that's real rough. Glad the surgery went well and I'm wishing you the best in rehab.
violentlycar.bsky.social
What happened to your ankle that required this surgery, if you don't mind me asking?

whenever I think of Philadelphia, I think of hitchBOT, a Canadian hitchhiking robot that successfully hitchhiked across three countries, then after trying to hitchhike from Boston to San Francisco, was "stripped, dismembered, and decapitated" when it got to Philadelphia
violentlycar.bsky.social
but how does that lead you to believe that bottoms are usually doms
violentlycar.bsky.social
I want a stack trace of how he wound up at this conclusion because I am sure it's deeply fascinating
violentlycar.bsky.social
Well, it's only strong emergence if they're starting from a physicalist position, but most of these people are, so
violentlycar.bsky.social
I agree with that given that I'm an idealist, but that's not what they're talking about. They're talking about AI "achieving" consciousness, that is to say, that it isn't conscious, and then, once it hits some arbitrary "complexity," it becomes conscious. That is strong emergence and it's nonsense.
violentlycar.bsky.social
lol, it would be pretty hard of them to provide proof of something that's basically supernatural
violentlycar.bsky.social
Wait, the guy suggesting that strong emergence is a thing was accusing you of magical thinking?
