There’s still blood on Sanji’s face, and in his hair. But none of it’s his own, so it’ll wait until he’s finished with the dishes.

He feels Zoro approaching from behind, he's still caught in that mid-battle hyper awareness of him – his presence, his movements. He leans over Sanji’s shoulder and turns off the taps at the sink.

“Cook,” he rumbles, and his big hands find Sanji’s waist and squeeze it.

Sanji’s eyelashes flutter down to meet his cheeks. Slowly, slowly, he tips his head to one side, baring his neck. He’s not sure what he’s offering. His heart stutters a syncopated beat. This feels like something that’s been so long in the making.

Carefully, one of those big hands moves to brush his loose hair aside. Blunt fingertips catch on the skin of his bare neck, his shoulder, and he has to bite back a shiver. They trail up, more gentle than he would have thought a man like Zoro was capable of being, to the line of his jaw, to his cheek. He hisses when they come into delicate contact with the bruise there.

“Hurts?” Zoro grunts.

Hurts?” Zoro grunts.

Sanji shakes his head, hair shifting with the movement. “Not really. You’ve given me worse.”

“Hm.”

Sanji leans into his touch, to prove it. Feels the sting flare and then settle into something gentler, a background ache. He rubs his cheek against Zoro’s hand like a cat. “You were enjoying it until that point.”

“Yeah,” Zoro says, with no hesitation. “But I don’t like other men putting their hands on you.” His other hand slips forward onto Sanji’s belly, splaying out possessively. And oh, that’s a new feeling. Like being watched, and desired, but <i>more</i>. Sanji leans into the newness of it, like he’d leaned into the ache on his cheek. He settles against the bigger body behind him, feeling the broadness of it against his back. He breathes in the scent of Zoro, undeniably masculine.

This feels… huge. Like standing on the lip of a chasm, not knowing what he’ll find at the bottom but still, somehow, being tempted to jump in anyway and fucking find out.

I've been so in the mood for unhinged possessive not-yet-actually-together zosan lately.

This is a sneak peek from a WIP where the two of them are up in the rigging of an enemy ship, having a moment mid-battle, and a very stupid pirate manages to land a hit on Sanji while he's distracted.

$"Fuck," he gasps, bringing his hand to the newly forming bruise. It's nothing, he tells himself. Didn’t even break the skin; Sanji had had much worse injuries before his age was in the double digits. So he's startled when the sound Zoro makes in response is <i>inhuman</i>. All primal, demonic rage that echoes outwards like a wavefront. The sails themselves stir with the ripple of it. The pirate pales in Sanji’s grip. Sanji almost feels sorry for him – but not sorry enough to prevent what’s coming to him. He makes eye contact with Zoro for a fraction of a second, then releases the guy and lets him fall. He makes it as far as the next rung down, where Zoro is waiting with hellfire in his eyes. Sanji lights up a cigarette, and blood goes arcing high and wide around him, spattering a red arch on the sail behind.$
