Think of it this way: if there’s an explanation, you’re in analogy country, but if one thing simply equates to another, then that’s metaphor. There’s a fine rhetorical line between them. That said, if you’re leaning on “similarity,” that sounds to me like comparison.

Comparison becomes analogy when one thing stands in for another, as far as I understand the distinction between them. Analogy is like reasoning in parallel. A metaphor doesn’t explain that way. It equates. I guess it depends on how you treat the two, corp greed vis-a-vis childish tantrum?

I do too! Though, have these folks read any Tchaikovsky lately? What an imaginative weirdo and I love him.

I'm enjoying Who Will You Save quite a lot at the moment. Spent a few hours this afternoon reading, in fact. Is Ann Szkatula a character from a novel I've missed? Those stories had me hooked like a fish.

I find this happens when reading Brits (I’m US) who’ll slip in a word I’m unaccustomed to reading—like “lamp” as a verb. Just pops from the page.

Most certainly. At least, though, I picked the exam question to answer for each. 🙂

Love me some breakfast tacos. Do you season the eggs? I usually whip in a pinch or two of chili powder.

True. I only ask of agents that they don’t bury the lede. Not open for queries at the moment? Cool. Tell me up front, please and thank you.

As part of my doctoral exams, I had to produce a publishable paper in seventy-two hours. Then, I had to do so a second time. My dissertation chair gave me advice: "Make sure you go for walks." Kept my head clear and saved my sanity.

If this is real, the agent sounds like an unserious person without the network contacts needed to land a serious deal. I could be wrong, but…

Same. I've got a sci-fi WIP on cooldown that's a homage to Kurosawa and Japanese period dramas like Kill! and the Musashi trilogy. Think gender-flipped Yojimbo with bits and beats from other films woven into the story's fabric. An admittedly impish pleasure to write.

That sounds like SO much fun. I mean, hard work but fun. I'm looking forward to digging into Loki's Ring! Persephone Station just crackled (RIP Kurosawa).
