Inflection point! Pasteur said, "chance favors only the prepared mind." A clear discussion of durable democracy is needed. Examples:
• Maxwell Stearn's idea of 3 amendments to fix the presidency.
• The presidency as a "Federal Council" (Swiss model) or a Council of the Federation (Canada model).

Something to consider is that Article VII of the Constitution does not prohibit revocation of ratification. It might apply to CA because it was granted some rather special rights at admission. If not, 5 of the original 13 could theoretically revoke ratification. What that may mean is anyone's guess.

On the book tour I found "No Democracy Lasts Forever" by Erwin Chermerinsky quite interesting. What he misses in the compromises evolving to flaws in the constitutional order is the selection of and limits on the executive. It's an ancient problem and has modern solutions, including the Swiss model.

This should also be enacted by states in a model act. In addition, medical debt should be excluded from what is called "family debt" in many states. The use of family debt is yet another harassment technique of collection agencies.

Per Juriglobe, is a unique model of a directional executive. rebrand.ly/ch_juriglobe. Adrian Vatter, Rector of the Uni Berne, has done a nice in-depth analysis of the model. www.routledge.com/Swiss-Federa...

Helpful observation. In your world tour, I missed a stop in Berne and a look at the Swiss Federal Council under the unique system from 1848. The Swiss copied from the United States as they worked to form a national government.

The election is a symptom of a more significant structural problem with American governance. Some very good ideas from Professor Stearns in U. of Maryland about transitioning to a parliamentary democracy. www.law.umaryland.edu/content/arti....

Consider interviewing Prof. Stearns.

For those reading Prof. Reich’s column, watch a couple of minutes of Musk. He uses all the techniques of a hustler. I term it “Flimflam sell you something man”.

Complex situation in Europe. The German SPD has a "Russian" problem of a history of complicity with Russia going back to Willy Brandt and later a former chancellor (Schröder) taking a job with Gazprom. If the coalition switches to CDU/FDP in Feb., NATO could move quicker and stop dithering.

Very true. After listening to Yuval Harari on this topic (youtu.be/FQYGid5uCPk?...) it was clear to me that the U.S. has MAJOR structural issues in its governance. How that gets solved will require some new thinking that is not really evident today.

Overreach is certainly a given. Unlike some of the past times of tycoon overreach, the issues of climate change will disrupt the tycoons' economic base of the FIRE (finance, insurance, and real estate) economy. Climbing out of runaway climate change will not be solved by another TARP package.

One should not forget that the ascendency of Truman came at a time that FDR was dying and weak. Truman was the favorite of the Pendergast machine from Kansas City, a connection that may have its own strong negatives.
