I would also have tied it to some bill to increase farm revenues, for the other side of the same coin.

Supermarkets profit too much from farmer labour.

Right now there are a few scenarios where buying farm land and not using it for anything at all is better than using it to farm. Its insanity.

This is only true if land value doesn't change.

What labour needs to do is go further to get everyone like Clarkson and Dyson out, crash farm land value, and thus make it easier for people to pass farms to the next generation and attract new farmers to the industry.

It really isn't controversial.

1 pass your farm on before you retire to the next generation. No tax unless:
2 you die within 7 yrs - but they have £1m per person threshold before tax kicks in.

3 IHT is half - yes, half the 40% the rest of us pay.

4 Farmers can spread IHT payment over 10 yrs.
