Last night I dreamt about when I was a young specialist physician and went to work in France. I dreamt that roller coaster mixture of fright and euphoria.Then I woke up and remembered that middle age is that time of life when you are still strong and active, but there will never be new beginnings.

Stupidity is not intellectual deficit. It's blocked empathy. We have a small window of opportunity when we can choose to care. Beyond that, the mind closes, reason is dumb, we are no longer able to see reality. We become stupid.

What strange days are these, when being a doctor became insidiously and forcefully political, when perverted ideologies that claim that helping people is wrong are embraced by majorities.

As psychiatrists, we do not work with concepts such as "collective mind". Yet I feel that something shifted in later years and mental dysfunctions became socially diffuse, almost contagious. Psychotic content disguised as ideology, impaired reality testing as culture, psychopaty as leadership.
