Hey all, I’m going to be starting another leg of travel in November and I want to get a head start on saving for that—and ofc can always use help with rent in the meantime.

Feel free to hit me up by DM about video editing jobs/commissions of all kinds—or you can just send money. Either, or.

i am in a cool, odd place w/ this; even though the skeleton of it is gonna essentially be the original Restoration script, enough little stuff is being changed that i’m worried about spoiling stuff for folks??

ended up making a MAJOR decision today, that changes PLENTY textually for the final act…

the central theme of the og show—about the obsession with narrativizing & exploiting mental illness for pseudo-awareness (or straight up personal catharsis)—resurfacing in the 2025 internet, is so fun. Jay and Alex being gross exploiters without Tim’s story is fitting and i can 100% dig it

I’m glad I made that video. And I hope my content in general Shows My Ass on my blind spots with academia.

Folks that enjoy my essays bc I am “knowledgeable” ought to know this:

I am leading with a feeling. Everything else is supplementary. Without the emotion, my work means very little, imo.
vluisasantiago.bsky.social
The “Literal” essay is about 75% “feeling” and 25% “proof”—a ratio I *still* question the intensity of, to the latter. If art is a vehicle for empathy, and if I ever feel I must “prove” my feelings as legitimate…

…I don’t know. Feels like so many of us already have to do that *outside* of our art.
vluisasantiago.bsky.social
This might be why I typically move away from researched essays—well, that and, I am atrociously poorly-read & retain information embarrassingly poorly—because art is, to me, a process of feeling. If I can “adapt” my feelings through an essay, I then feel my piece need not “justify” its value.
vluisasantiago.bsky.social
—so the entirety of my personal experience with Art As Metaphor would either have to be presented as fact, or as a willful misremembering of fact. Both are valuable (I ended up with this lens either way); but one is informed, is more “convincing.” That is a can of worms unto itself.
vluisasantiago.bsky.social
It’s weird, working on a piece that’s both academic and personal; that Conclusion does not work for me without the personal layer of it being around the same time I first engaged with Art As Metaphor.

Without that angle, the essay cannot exist. But it also needs to be validated by the information—
vluisasantiago.bsky.social
There is also, of course, the layer of the information being archived *on their ends*—I am terrible at maintaining my own logs of both work & interaction, and luckily, my old English teacher and the Vonnegut Archives have a better handle at… archiving. The latter, I suppose, is less surprising?
vluisasantiago.bsky.social
This was a scary process—not because I had expected not to hear back from the people I had reached out to, but because the thesis of the video depended on the events happening as I remembered them.

I was lucky; there are whole essays I had done in the past that fell apart at this stage.
vluisasantiago.bsky.social
In recent viewing of well-researched essays that do great archival work—& reflecting on my priorities w/ essays as exploration beyond intent—I wanted to spotlight my one true attempt at academia, since it turns two years old tomorrow: the final Conclusion of my “Literal” Essay (beginning at 42:35).

trans people aren't the downfall of civilization no matter how many monster truck show people who pivoted to blasphemous megachurch spectacles say so. they weren't right about pokemon cards or e-drugs or whatever, they're not right about this. it's a stalking horse for social domination by losers
