(This was like the perfect excuse to shill who I still argue is my favorite author of all time lmao. Highly recommend his work if you're looking for something that scratches the same itch as Ryukishi's writing but in a way more self-critical way. He's not for everyone but I always recommend him).

Bottom line is that like, I have played a lot of his stuff (playing Higanbana with another friend but they're always busy so lmao) and in none of the stories of his I read I feel that he's intentionally trying to pull a rug under the audience with the final thesis. He is no Satou Yuuya.

Like, when I got to the ending of Gerokasu (earlier this year also) and I saw so many of the same self-hating nihilistic remarks within Sayo used be presented as the completely separate story's natural conclusion, it kind of solidifed how I felt in how this is the way Ryukishi has always written.

Higurashi Mei was a one of a kind game.

I think its hilarious Jojo fans can probably say that about the character on the right as I have seen on powerscaling threads unaware that the (seemingly) unnamed girl on the left legit might be one of the most cracked characters in Maijo powerscaling discussion.

60 - Apocalypse Zero (1994 - 1996)

Anyone can write good art but you need to become a special kind of author to write art that makes your reader want to rethink everything they consider to be good storytelling.
Need a full anime for Harara to start a revolution in the LGBT community.

59 - MILGRAM (2020 - Ongoing)

Yukito Ayatsuji's will is carried out as day by day more people abide by his message on french people's ontological evil.

58 - Kowloon Generic Romance (2019 - Ongoing)

Some people will drop it before they reveal one of the characters is actually a repressed transfem secret agent and thats just sad. More cohesive than I expected from a romance manga that genre shifts into an Uchikoshi-Urasawa love child.

57 - The Girl in Twilight (2018)

The final episode really tries its hardest to work with what its given but the show is NOT suited for the story it ultimately becomes. Rare case of an Uchikoshi piece of media that could have benefited from focusing more on the twist instead of characters.

56 - Estômago (2007)

One of my cinematic highlights of the year with what might be one of the worst posters I have ever seen. Fully recommend people to watch this without reading anything about it because the way it presents itself is genuinely masterful.

55 - Remember11 - The Age of Infinity (2004)

Somehow the most nothing out of Uchikoshi's games despite having some of the craziest twists in theory. I will be playing Nakazawa's solo projects after this so here's hoping that he starts writing halfway coherent narratives.

54 - Oyasumi Punpun (2007 - 2013)

Manga that seems very targeted to speak to specific groups of people and I think its easy to see why it would hit top 5 for the ones who resonate with it. I may be out of such group but it doesn't stop me from liking its technical aspects.

52 - The Mill House Murders (1988) [updated review]

I was at awe at how little the Mill House has to do with this book. Honestly soured on me after a while just because I think its mystery is nowhere near as well designed as Decagon's, despite me enjoying the characters a lot more.

51 - Jacob's Ladder (1990)

My computer crashed twice while attempting to stream this. Really solid movie even if I can see people calling the ending kind of a cop out. Particularly fun to see where one specific author got the idea for their big plot twist from.

50 - Under The Silver Lake (2018)

Great movie for people who like to spend 40 minutes overanalyzing details after watching them. Andrew Garfield looks like shaggy from scooby doo during the credits.

49 - The Elusive Samurai (2024 - Ongoing)

Go in completely blind and treat yourself to one of the most gorgeous shows I have seen in a long while. Hopefully the fact that this is based on a true story will allow for a properly built-up ending.
