There are plenty of debates to be had about socialism. Socialists have them all the time. But unless you know what the -ism means, and until you know the context of examples, those cannot be had in good faith.

I hope this was helpful & I hope you continue exploring.

The truth is it was always going to end up at the bottom, just as wealth and power concentrates at the top under capitalism. So long as private capitalists own the means they have society & its politics by the throat. The state becomes their plaything. The people become disposable tenants.

What socialists like me are trying to tell you is what you see as "corruption" of an otherwise-fine capitalist system is capitalism working as intended. Imagine dropping a marble in a bowl and watching it spiral towards the bottom. You're stuck on the idea that it was fine towards the top.

Social ownership of the means does not entail communal personal belongings. It means, in one classic example, a factory being owned & democratically controlled by those who work there, or by the community that factory is in. Different types of socialism approach that arrangement differently.

There are different approaches to a socialist society, but the core of socialism is social ownership of the means of production. If there is no social ownership it doesn't matter if government is doing something, it's not even an attempt at socialism, let alone socialism in practice.

I'll give some serious responses then:
The most common miseducation about socialism is tying it to government. This is especially true in America, where anything related to the so-called public sector is described as "socialized". There is no such thing as a "socialized school program".

I have some questions that I want you to think about Tiffany. Don't worry about answering me, ask them of yourself and continue to seek the answers.

Where did you learn these things?
Who told them to you?
Under what system?
To whose benefit?
And what experience do you have to confirm it?

What does that even mean? It's not a slot machine that flashes pretty lights and gives you candy if you get a magic number. The people involved have to actually vote on things.

Which Cuellar does, in favor of the Republicans. 100% of the time.

^ this. My early adulthood was dedicated to helping keep my family above water after the financial crisis and crash after crash. The year I finally saw a light at the end of that tunnel was... early 2020.

I'm watching the AI bubble like a shipwreck survivor watching a yacht sink.

I'm reminded of the scene in HBO's Rome where the court of Egypt offered Pompey's head to Caesar, and they were genuinely surprised when he was angry about it.

Our society is run by that court. Little boy pharaohs playing with severed heads and demanding treats.

Conservatives are to reactionaries what a well-fed tiger in a zoo is to a hungry wild one. Same animal, different context, never domesticated.
