Not really. Now, things have calmed down quite a bit now that I managed to nail a lot of the bad queries down.

But the bulk is the "game", really. The processing of all the interactions, node traversal, but also the viewing of character profiles with LOTS of data in there.

I'll know more as we go.

Nope, just an update, and I don't have enough capacity yet to do a smooth rollover :3
February 11, 2026 at 3:43 AM
Right now I'm running redis myself in a pod. If it becomes really important, I can migrate to Google's MemoryStore in a click. It's just flexible so I don't have to care about these details. I'm paying roughly 2 Spotify accounts per month for that peace of mind running a service for me.
February 11, 2026 at 1:18 AM
And the upgrade was done seamlessly, with zero downtime. The next scaling if it needs to happen will be similar. Maybe 1 or 2 minutes of downtime, tops.

It's basically paying $30/mo flat rate for peace of mind. And at very scale, I can even replace components with beefier, if needed.
February 11, 2026 at 1:18 AM
I don't need to handle a control plane, I don't need to handle a load balancer in front of the machines, I don't need to handle anything! It's all done for me. The basic cost for 2 pods with a basic database is ~$50/mo, which is what I was at originally. I'm now at 6, with the tier 2 database.
February 11, 2026 at 1:18 AM
Right now if I want to deploy a new version of Voresky, I run a script, and GKE takes my code, test it, verifies it starts properly, and does a graceful roll over of the pods for me, and it rolls it back automatically in case of a failure. They run Kubernetes for me. I don't manage it.
February 11, 2026 at 1:18 AM
It's currently running on top of GKE. Am I paying a bit more than what I could get with a VPS? Sure, especially at low scale. At higher scale however, like what we're already at, the difference won't really be felt, AND you get the advantage of having the infrastructure just... there.
February 11, 2026 at 1:18 AM
Now that's the neat part: upgrading from the tier 1 to a beefier tier 2 machine was just a click of a button. GCE just migrated all of my data in under 2 minutes from the previous one to the next one. "Hey do you want to give us more money?" Sure, click, done.

Same with the actual logic.
February 11, 2026 at 1:18 AM
Right now the database is under heavy heavy load. I'm trying to optimize some of the queries, but Voresky being what it is, there's tons of relational queries all over the place. The tier 1 server I got for it initially for ~$25/mo wasn't really doing it. Upgraded to tier 2.
February 11, 2026 at 1:18 AM
Right, so.

I can discuss architecture a bit. But this is using GKE Autopilot. Basically, things scale up and down more or less automatically, and the cost is kind of billed on demand, with some minimums. The steps are the "minimums", and the most expensive part of it all is the database.
February 11, 2026 at 1:10 AM
I started my career building datacenters. Hauling machines into racks, wiring them up. While writing code at the same time for the services they'd run. I'm an old guard there.

There might be another rant I'd need to do about how people just throw money out the window, but that's for another time.
February 10, 2026 at 11:21 PM
PS: I will keep the billing page on there. I'm not kidding. It's here to stay.

It's still showing $0 as I'm on the free trial. But whatever happen, I'll keep full transparency about it. You'll see exactly the cost of running Voresky, its data, everything, at all times. My pledge to all y'all.
February 10, 2026 at 11:03 PM
So, in all seriousness: what do I do? I know infrastructure and code very well. But this? Not really.

People on Discord are telling me to create an LLC, talking about getting donations. 3k users and counting... ugh.

Are we there yet? Should I do that?

Comments are very appreciated at this point
February 10, 2026 at 11:03 PM
That'd be the next step I'd need to take. For 10k users, the next upgrade would start costing me between $400 and $1k/mo, with a cost that's not too predictable at this point.

This would hold me until 100k users, and I seriously can't imagine we'd go that far.

But $1k/mo starts to be high for me.
February 10, 2026 at 11:03 PM
We're at 3k users now. What? Just... huh.

Okay, so, that was the next 10x step. I upgraded the infrastructure. It's now projected to cost me around $200/mo right now.

Which I can still handle myself.

But. Did you see the growth graph?

At this rate, we hit 10k users by the end of the week.
February 10, 2026 at 11:03 PM
Scaling infrastructure isn't linear. You do this every 10x users basically.

Voresky was running on my home machine, until I hit 100 users. Where it started sputtering.

So then I moved it to the cloud. Took the lowest tier of scalable hosting, something like $50/mo

Worked great, until recently.
February 10, 2026 at 11:03 PM
Yes, that! I should make some splash screens or something...
February 10, 2026 at 8:31 PM
Once again, thank you all for the ride. It's amazing. No idea if we're in for the long haul, or if it's just going to fizzle out on its own a little bit later. But either way, it's so, so worth it.

I love you all, you're amazing.

Keep it up.
February 10, 2026 at 12:45 PM
So I need to be careful about what I add. I will add a polling system to ask you about the new features and changes I think might be controversial or delicate. I want to continue to empower you by giving you more voice into Voresky.

It started as my brainchild, but now, let's all build it together.
February 10, 2026 at 12:45 PM
Now, moving forward, I want to slow down a little bit. Not because I'm running out of energy, quite the opposite. But because I don't want to break your trust. All of you placed a gigantic amount of trust in nobody little me, and I need to do everything in my power to preserve it.
February 10, 2026 at 12:45 PM
I've seen what Voresky has done to all y'all too. People starting to interact. To get creative. To talk to each other. Building bridges. It's just... It's incredible.

I am so happy to see my friends also running high on endorphins as a result. I've enabled that. It's... I don't know what to say...
