I printed out maps, filled out character sheets, and clipped little part squares in preparation for a Protoplastic playtest last night, but when the time came one person couldn't make it, and another showed up late, so quorum was sadly not reached. Still played some Cairn, though.

As small of a thing as it might seem when you're doing it, even a single positive comment can convince a designer that they're not pouring out their soul into an unseen void.

If you enjoyed a game on Itch, leave a comment!

Honestly, it really brightens a creator's day. And it's a big encouragement for others who may be interested in getting that game.

Itch hides reviews from the game page, so I find comments more useful in the long run.

Like a game? Comment away!

Hence me starting earlier this year! I have made connections in the community since then, which has been encouraging. It just feels like more of an uphill battle now that I missed the heyday of TTRPG blogging.

I'm sad that I didn't start blogging sooner. I read RPG blogs copiously years ago, but I felt like I needed to have more complete things to show to get into that scene myself. I now realize that everyone else was doing stream-of-consciousness while working on things, and I could have done that too.

My reflexive response is that the GM should roll dice for the sake of simulative parity with the players, and because GMs should get to play a game and not just be an entertainer for the other people at the table. There is something to be said for the simplicity of not rolling, though.

I love award shows. It's no secret. It's why I've spent months writing, refining, and trying to distill my Ennies judging experience.

It's a 4-part series (I know, I know). One article a day. Today's lays out my goals and puts the focus on awards in general.

Watched Funeral Parade of Roses. I enjoyed it a lot, but I was not prepared for the tonal whiplash of going from a suicide to a slapstick comedy routine, then a documentary interview. As a final loop, reading about the film afterward revealed that the protagonist is played by Grimoire Weiss.

I put up a goal on my ko-fi because I want to help my parents pay for my matriculation fees.

My mom lost her full-time job so my dad has taken on most of our expenses.

Any amount will help immensely! If you can't give anything, even sharing this around will help, too.

Type 1 fun can entertain a whole planet.

Type 2 fun can entertain all of the intelligent life-forms in a single star system, probably through the use of a Dyson sphere.

Type 3 fun can entertain a whole galaxy.

"Combats" is a tropical fish of a plural, only able to survive in the warm, mineralized waters of roleplaying game discourse.

I think this would count as a form of the anchoring effect: the initial price sets a heuristic of how valuable the product is (a lower price would make it seem like the product as less valuable), so the lower sale price then feels like a good deal. Anchoring plus good old fashioned FOMO, of course.
