Indeed they seem to be oblivious of the mandate they got to sort out the corruption as Chris Bryant pointed out in opposition. Instead, on a subject that needs transparency, their first reaction is to hold an enquiry in private. Only to be forced to be transparent by back benches!! 🤦

And completely missing the point on challenging the PMs transparency response on a subject that has been wholly opaque to protect the perpetrators. Apologising to victims are words undermined by the action of being forced to be transparent by Labour back benches. Not the most defendable position?

Whether the current government would take such an opportunity given the mandate they were elected on is another matter. Based on the last year's lack of aspiration on anti corruption & their proposal of legislation to only eject Mandelson rather than wholesale HoL reforms, it seems very unlikely!
