Old one works mostly fine, but the battery is dying and charging is faulty, so it's hard to keep it on and I am afraid charging might stop working completely soon

They're hard to see with hundreds of enemies and bullets on screen, but in the end it all depends on your particular game.

I am trying to decide if I should add them in my game or not, because they give me a casual/arcade feeling I don't really like 🤔

Maybe I'd extend the external grid an extra cell to fill the empty space, but it's all things I would leave at the very last as they are merely cosmetic (unless you're already all done with gameplay ofc 😅)
