So...that would also mean ALL people of European descent, as well? I mean, ALL immigrants and their descendants, right? I used to tell my father-in-law, the difference between the status of our families is what YEAR our ancestors got off a boat in N America: his, the 1600s; mine the 1900s.

Of course, if we take a broader view: we do NOT give routine vaccinations for diseases that USAnians are unlikely to encounter. Those in our vaccine schedules are the ones that are real risks to our kids. When we travel abroad to places with different diseases, we get vaccines to deal with those.

Sure, I still remember my HS English teacher's warning as we went off to uni about learning more & more about less & less. I see now that he also was encouraging us to fight it (a little). Luckily, one of our grad faculty repeated: "If your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail!"

What? No! A PhD is the gateway to professional "studying": the credential that certifies we have the research and writing skills to tackle complex problems and to learn how to resolve them. Sure, the content focus is "learning more & more about less & less". PhD is about skills, not just content.
