Exactly and don’t get me wrong there are some great examples of that on the market rn. But It feels like more the exception than the rule. Especially when it comes to what mainstream gaming corps seems to think players want.

Even BG3, which I love, only allows you to participate in the world so much. Outside of the predefined characters your “player character” has no connection to the world or the people. They feel like an outlier. Same could be said of Cyberpunk, every Bethesda product, and a lot of other big titles.

No I mean specifically games that let you customize your character for literally no other reason than to look like you. So many big titles of today have MCs with zero personality or defining traits of their own bc they’re supposed to act as a proxy for the player. But I’ve grown bored of that trope.
