Teacher, mom, sexagenarian. Bourgeois sensibilities, radical left sympathies. Seeing the future in my students' faces, and the rhyme of history in newspapers.
I popped on here mainly to see if you and another person I know who's living in Hawaii was ok. Glad you are.

My family visited there one summer when I was a kid, and all I remember is being very hot and very, very bored. Given your reading about the site, I trust you will have a much more meaningful experience. :)

I teach about NATO in the Cold War context for HS Global History, and start off w/ a handout of the opening paragraph (more or less) of the NATO agreement. Students work w/ a partner to figure out the doc's purpose, why it references the N. Atlantic, and its historical context.

When I was in Amherst MA last week, and the temperature was in the teens, I heard a tufted titmouse, black-capped chickadee, goldfinch, and mourning dove, according to my Merlin phone app.

Per the Interwebs, “Trigon” is a DC comics character who is “the embodiment of evil.” www.dc.com/characters/t... seems apt. It’s also an archaic form of “triangle,” but do we really think he knew that?
Trigon | Official DC Character
The living embodiment of evil itself, Trigon has tried numerous times to conquer reality, but has been thwarted by his daughter Raven and the Teen Titans.

Based on my years of teaching Global History, my view is that humans do not learn from history lessons that prevent the rhyme of history, but we may learn to understand events better, and thus to address them better.

Did you see any "DOGS against DOGE" signs? (Saw signs like that in my feeds)

We can all do something. Go to a protest, contact elected officials, give money, run for office, sign a petition, talk with anyone you know who has a different political view. Remember your values. Take care of yourself. We outnumber them.

I teach 10th grade Global History in NYC, and tell students that at times weaker places have their fate decided by stronger ones. In addition to China & the Berlin Conference: Czechoslovakia 1936, Korea & Vietnam during Cold War. Strong doing what they can, weak suffering what they must.

The UW-Madison reaction surprises me based on my under-informed impression of the place, but I was in college in the 80s and know many were leaning conservative.

You misspelled their name, when I was trying to recall it recently for a class on nonviolence, I kept thinking, "No, no, it's not Kristin. What IS it??" Much ❤️ to you both for all you do.
