We live high up on the southern slope of Volcán Poás and have been watching it all morning, from a safe distance.

Here's a side view. One of these beauties flew into our window a couple of weeks ago. We let it recover safely in a carrier, then released it a few hours later and to our relief it flew away gracefully.

This pretty little friend was hopping around our driveway high on the slopes of V. Poás last night. Don't know her name.

Holiday colors here in Costa Rica

A few years ago a juvenile motmot flew into our sunroom to check things out. We welcomed him! After he had grown up enough to know better than to fly into people’s houses, he occasionally perched on the pool fence to see if we still gave out free bananas. In fact, we did. #costarica #motmot

I give up. I've tried clicker training, operant conditioning, motivational training, the Koehler method...but nothing has worked. After 3 years I still can't get Roofus to open with any move except the Grunfeld defense.

Meet my best boy Limón, aka LEEE-mo. He was a stray who came with the house, now the most beloved dog ever. Dogs that look like him are common in Costa Rica. Limo’s like a cross between a German Shepherd and a Golden Retriever, with only the very best qualities of each breed. ❤️🐕 #dogs #costarica
