The tardition should read "tradition." U.S. diplomatic tradition under both Bush presidencies is one of "gun-boat" diplomacy, today in revival. Let us hope this foreign policy stance does not move from the Western to the Eastern Hemisphere. The "Carter Doctrine" is clearly dead now, as is Congress.

The administration's revival of the "Monroe Doctrine" by barely literate leaders incapable of expressing U.S. history and dismissive of the diplomatic tardition devolved from the "Good Neighbor" policy is an impoverished defense of invading a sovereign nation posing no armed threat to our security.
