But Canada does have a different regime around sites that offers some limited liability protections that the US simply lacks without section 230. US also lacks the conditional exceptions from DSA, and those had predecessors in local laws. That is why repeal without replace is a huge problem.

And when you make it infeasible to run small forums without risking a virtually unlimited level of liability, what you get is the worst of all worlds: a set of giant, and even more firmly entrenched social media platforms, as new ones will all get sued out of existence before they can grow.
March 8, 2025 at 12:23 AM
Yeah, I did say upcoming, since it unfortunately will take some time and can't help yet.
March 8, 2025 at 12:10 AM
But keep in mind that even that can backfire bad when states decide LGBT content is harmful content that must be moderated, or that factual takes on illegality of the administration's actions must count as misinformation.
March 8, 2025 at 12:09 AM
It very much is the issue. Remember this section covers all UGC everywhere. Places like small forums cannot possibly hire enough staff to monitor and immediately remove stuff 24/7. If one is mostly concerned about big social media sites, explicitly regulate those.
March 8, 2025 at 12:09 AM
And if we kill section 230, then sites will try to go common carrier, moderating nothing except illegal content, as it is far safer than assuming liability. Section 230 needs to be reformed for giant social media sites, not outright repealed. Remember it protects small forums as much as big tech.

Good faith may not mean much if literal millions saw the post for the limited time it was up. Which might be a minute, but can often be 10+ minutes. Plus of course, with the sheer amount of posts, even with commercially reasonable efforts some things will get missed, and the site will lose those.
March 7, 2025 at 11:54 PM
After all, even very good moderation that quickly removes false info would still leave the site liable for the minute or so it was up. Remember, the right wing wanted to kill section 230, because they wanted to force zero moderation to prevent social media from moderating away their hate speech.
March 7, 2025 at 11:33 PM
The issue is that without something limiting liability, nobody would be willing to run any site that hosts user generated content, as they would either need to do zero moderation of non-illegal content (and fall under common carrier rules), or would need to pre-approve every post to avoid liability.
March 7, 2025 at 11:33 PM
And to be clear, not just social media, and YouTube, but also Discord, multiplayer video games, basically every messaging app ever made, etc. Essentially every part of the internet that hosts user generated content relies on it.
March 7, 2025 at 11:22 PM
The first is not viable, and could cause all sorts of headaches, as states and foreign countries all have their own standards, and presence of adult content can cause problems accepting credit cards, etc. The second means the literal end of all social media, YouTube, etc.
March 7, 2025 at 11:16 PM
If you repeal without replacing, then websites must either allow posting literally everything (even porn/gore), and only moderate stuff that is technically illegal (common carrier), or they must vet each and every post before it shows up, lest they be liable.

Also doesn't help that therapists in general can be covered under a wide array of licenses. There is LPC, LMFT, LCSW, Psychology licensing, among others. Which all vary in requirements. For example, the upcoming SW Licensing Compact multistate licenses might help with LCSWs, but not the others.
March 7, 2025 at 10:50 PM
The reciprocal rules that exist typically result in independent licenses in each state, which must be maintained and renewed separately, since they are mostly intended for providers who move to a new state. So most only maintain one, with a small number maintaining 2 or maybe 3 states.
March 7, 2025 at 10:50 PM
Honestly, it is also frustrating from the client side. For telehealth based therapy sessions, state borders really shouldn't need to matter. But the current state based licensure models do not fit that well. Instead providers would need multiple licenses.

The question is thus if this product is using a 4090D core, or an actual 4090 core like advertised.

Of course, even if it is a 4090D, the ~6% perf loss vs a proper 4090 is probably not a big deal if your models need that much VRAM.
January 16, 2025 at 2:39 PM
The 48GB 4090D version is known to be made by transplanting the chip onto a 3090 Ti motherboard with ram chips on both sides, since they can't get that high on a normal 4090 motherboard. That obviously involves upgrading the ram chips on the board.
January 16, 2025 at 2:39 PM
That is a Manli 3090 TI blower. This makes sense because 48 GB 4090Ds are generally made by transplanting a 4090D core onto 3090 TI motherboards that are compatible but have more ram chip locations.

I have heard rumors that China has made some non-D 48GB 4090s, but no confirmation.

My understanding is the key to the comeback of commentated videos was to stop worrying about trying to always beat expectations. Now sure he still has a pretty high self imposed quality bar for these videos, but far more reasonable than trying to beat expectations. 4/4

But eventually he started making commented videos again, and while many didnt go viral, they are still very good, with one eventually even overtaking his famous one in view count. 3/4

Also keep in mind the story of fellow YouTube creator @pannenkoek2012.bsky.social who had one video go extremely viral while spawning multiple memes, and after that didn't feel confident enough to make commented videos for years, because they could never meat the expectations set by that one. 2/4

Late reply, but for what it is worth, I may have found you from your work, but also liked some of your more relaxed (and thus less perfected) streams, and even your tweets. I'm sure I'm not alone here. 1/4
