As we’ve hopped over from X, we thought it would be a good time to re-introduce ourselves. We’re the Wales Women’s Budget Group, and we consult with the Welsh Government on fair and equal taxation for women and minority groups and campaign for a fair and gender-equal economy for all women in Wales.

Our new analysis shows how many children could be lifted out of poverty by 2029/30 if the two-child limit on Universal Credit would be abolished:

England: 626,022 children
Scotland: 51,036 children
Wales: 54,722 children
NI: 9,791 children

In yesterday's Spring Statement, the Chancellor prioritised compliance with her fiscal targets & defence spending. We are concerned that the actions taken to safeguard these self-imposed fiscal rules will detrimentally impact women in Wales.

We are pleased to see positive steps taken in the Welsh Government's 2025-26 budget. However, there is more work to be done to end gender discrimination in Wales.
