It’s been a busy day at Walker. The sixth grade finalists competed in the school-wide Oratorical Fest. They all absolutely knocked it out of the park.

Pi Night starts in 6 minutes, with the opportunity to pi(e) Dr. Thompson at the end of the evening.

The 6th gr is writing an explanatory essay. Their practice questions included:

Are there any circumstances under which teachers should use words like rizz & skibidi?

Are Takis ever an appropriate breakfast?

Choose a teacher to whom you can assign a positive aura score. Explain the score.

This morning kicked off the Walker Book Swap. Students & parents have been bringing in gently loved books to swap. All students had an opportunity to grab some books to take home to read over break or to give as gifts to siblings.

Thanks to our amazing reading specialists for organizing this!

Sixth graders are running experiments to see if male or female Hissing Cockroaches can carry more weight.

Overheard: “Slay Queen!” as the females consistently beat the males.

Sixth graders will be learning about Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. Goal: Debunking stereotypes about cockroaches with facts.

Today our sixth graders start a new unit in ELA. The kickoff is one of my favorite days of the year. For now, it’s a mystery.

Some pictures from yesterday’s publishing parties. These personal narratives were a triumph of differentiation done by teachers to ensure each student produced their best work.

Celebrating with a publishing party was great fun.
