It's just to generate buzz as saying "about 100 episodes" is not as punchy as "over 100 episodes" There's another ad from the same year that doesn't even mention a episode count.

Thats prob true but without the extras from the 1988 run the movie doesn't fit the 22min as single episodes and was never shown that way at the time. if you go by what was available to go to market at the point of the advert only 95 episodes could be sold as The 5 part rebirth wasnt shown yet.

That would be exactly 100 half hours of TV no over 100 hours of TV.
