Empty nester, learning to play modern video games. On a quest to play every game the kids left behind when they moved out.
I’m pretty confident that before 2020 I didn’t start to get anxious when we *only* had 10 rolls of toilet paper in the closet.

Fresh off the needles. I’ve finally reached that level of confidence in my knitting, for hats at least, where I can just make it up as I go along and wind up with something I can wear in public #knitsky

I assume anyone taller than me is older than me. This used to be a good rule of thumb. It is not anymore, but after 50 years of use, it is still my first impression.

That feeling when you sit up bolt upright after your nap with the realization that that girl at the party, 30 years ago, was trying to pick you up. #slowontheuptake

One of the few days where it’s acceptable, encouraged even, to eat candy for breakfast.

In my 50’s, and today I got my first, and probably last, tattoo.

Yes, but what about second breakfast?

Doped up after a vet visit. He suspects a slipped disc or a bulging one. Here hoping the drugs do their thing. Sucks to get old sometimes.

Opening a new browser window and then forgetting what you were about to type in the search bar is the modern “now why did I come in here?” #gettingolder

Finished Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. Enjoyed the combat and the puzzles. The story is something I’m going to be thinking about for a while. Very powerful. I also watched the “making of” short that was on the disc. Fascinating. Now I want to learn more about the Pict culture.

Hellblade: Senuas Sacrifice. After only a few sessions, I think I’m nearing the end. I’m totally hooked by the story. Can’t stop thinking about it.

Dragon Age Inquisition done. Lots of side quests and other storylines left. I think those might be for another time with a really different build. Should make for a substantially different experience.

I’ve been using fountain pens on and off for 40 years or so. I still often make a mess when refilling one.

That’s how you know it was a proper boss battle.

I threw out that box from the corner of the room that I kept meaning to throw out every time I walked past it FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS!

Started Jedi Survivor, first playthrough for me. I’m really enjoying the conversations I eavesdrop on between the droids and stormtroopers and the like. I’ve lol’d more than once. Still getting the hang of the controls. There are lots of different button combinations to learn.

Just finished the Last of Us. My hands are still shaking. I had mostly guessed the plot twist but I thought the ending was unsatisfying given all of the hours I spent to get there. I don’t want to play again or play the next one. I wonder if it would have hit differently if I was not a father.

Garlic mashed potatoes and spinach stuffed tenderloin for dinner. I’m not skilled enough to make it great, but it was better than edible.

Diving back into the Last of Us. My hands are frequently shaking and it’s hard to catch my breath. I don’t know if this counts as a fun game, but it certainly has my attention. I really want to reach the end. Have to play in small doses

Aubrey Bledsoe cookies to go in the care package with the hat.

Blocking a hat for my niece. The yarn was fun to work with though it wasn’t twisted, which took some getting used to. Now to bake some cookies to send with it, in case she hates the hat.

Finished AC Origins. I sort of blew through the last part and skipped side quests. It was getting repetitive. My idea was to continue Layla’s story with Odyssey, but looking at screen grabs, it’s going to be really similar. So going to take a break or play something different, first.

Video games are cheap entertainment. I’m not quite to the half-way point of AC:Origins but I’m already approaching $1 per hour spent.

Another BG3 playthrough looks like it’s going to flame out in Wyrms Crossing. I think it’s because the end of act 2 feels like the end of a normal game.
