I think there’s a small subset of them who are genuine believers that were just brainwashed by their parents and they do worry a lot about internal contradictions. But most of them are hypocrites I agree. It’s a bit like religion, true believers are the ones who have doubts about their faith

Also, that’s not an indictment against the comic but Spiegelman has been cowardly shy about Zionism all his life (idk if he made comments post Oct 7). Someone in his position should denounce Israel, and it really detracts from his message that he claims he doesn’t know what to think about it

Maus as a comic it’s technically flawless. But after several readings I feel like Vladek tells the story in a biased way. Artie has the decency to show Vladek as someone who even before Auschwitz was selfish (he literally mentions he dumped the first Jewish girl he dated because she was poor).
