Weird. It's usually the other way around. You start with an easy distro bc you're afraid to break anything and as you learn and get experienced, you become more comfortable about customizing everything and end up with on Arch or something.

That said, package managers are the problem and are harming the experience of many. So many tutorials only give instructions for apt, which is arguably the worst.

I don't understand the hate around systemd. It's much better, more secure and reliable, way better than sysv. What's your problem with it?
I would agree on Wayland though, it is still half-baked to this day, and we lost a lot functionally compared to X11

Personally, I can't stand Ubuntu and the choices Mark Shuttleworth makes against common sense. He's a real asshole BTW.
