In Spanish, yes. In American English, we tend to overuse the silent e. So in American English, the singular for tamales is tamale; it's actually official. (There's no excuse for "luchadore", however. Even by our standards, that's just wrong.)

Exactly. When people don't understand something and don't know much about it, it either looks grand and mysterious or they trivialize it. Neither is correct, but both are normal.

They're mundanes. They see a fursuit and think of it in terms of a Halloween costume, and you know how cheap the materials are for those. (Fun fact: The director for CSI's "Fur and Loathing" episode thought fursuits WERE Halloween costumes with flat masks, and had to be corrected.)

I'm too used to not having a smartphone, myself. My brain treats it like any other computer: I use it, then put it down and walk away. If I get bored (which I do a LOT), I go back to it for a while. But I simply don't think about it much.
