Actually if you want to create a podcast/blog with an overarching theme spanning several eras, “the many falls of Rome” would work very well (1 fall/season). It may be stronger than @mikeduncan.bsky.social ‘s “Revolutions” theme and comparable to @digiantiquarian.bsky.social ‘s Worldly Wonders theme

The thread comments also had a lot of people pushing for 1204. There were a few comments also putting it before 476.

When I made the meme above and posted it on Reddit (shorturl.at/9pmSf), I had so many proposals for "Fall of Rome" in comment that I wanted to do a matrix of them on two axis:
- "Ridiculous claim"/"Could hold up in court" axis
- Boring/Fun axis
Romania lives is IMO in the Ridiculous/Fun quadrant😃.

"Oh, you thought Rome fell in 1453/1461? Cute 😏".
My current tactics is to look appropriately jaded when anyone proposes a date and then assert that the Western Roman Empire finally fell with Wales in 1283 after the battle of Orewin Bridge.

By the way if you search for « Alien » on my blog you’ll find two early Alien games you probably never heard off. One is super minor, the other is by Avalon Hill but was retired almost immediately for copyright infringement reasons (I believe).

It’s coming in my blog before end of the week! I don’t share your assessment, but managed to contact the author and have pretty interesting context on how it came to be.

Hey, I covered this one (zeitgame.net/archives/9970) - Jon Freeman called it "Chess but fun". I also covered the (inferior?) sequel. Interestingly, Avalon Hill tried to copy the genre with Beast War but they tried too hard and the game was just too hard to jump into (zeitgame.net/archives/16937).
