Bath Spa University Class of 2023. All opinions are my own. He/Him.
Also I completely forgot to share my full thoughts on 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple last week which I'm so annoyed about because it's fantastic and I was really proud of that review, but it is also available to listen now! www.mixcloud.com/bathsound/jo...

The Voice of Hind Rajab in Best International Feature is arguably the most deserved and important nomination of the whole ceremony. I hereby dub Diane Warren the Chick Hicks of songwriters and Best Original Song will be a better category when she stops getting nominated.

Now it's been a couple days, some thoughts: No Other Choice being completely shut out is an absolute shame (especially with F1 somehow getting into Best Picture), but very happy with Sinners, Sentimental Value, One Battle After Another, Marty Supreme and Frankenstein dominating.

That's a really good comparison to make, because like King of the Monsters it thinks throwing so much visual flash onscreen relentlessly will provide enough jingling keys to distract from how poorly thought out the narrative is, but all it did was actively turn me against it.

The one that's surprised me the most with its absence here is H is for Hawk - the Plaza had listed on their website that they were expecting it up until last week. Same thing happened with Giant, I'm assuming because of the sizable demand for Hamnet and strong performances from the holdovers.

I'm hoping the Oscar nominations convince MUBI to distribute it wider because they haven't brought a single one of their releases down here since The Substance, but I'm fairly certain they'll also do this kind of distribution for The Secret Agent as well.

I'm extremely interested to see what the rollout for No Other Choice looks like next week, I've had the trailer play at least seven or eight times in the last month and a half but MUBI hasn't had a single one of their films play in my area since The Substance so it's still up in the air.

Also up on there are my thoughts on Marty Supreme, along with hundreds of other films in the nearly 5 years I've been part of Bath Sound:

Spoiler alert: Adam Sandler is definitely going to be there for this year's wrapped as I'm gradually going through the 35 films in his back catalogue I haven't seen yet. Yes, I'm already regretting it.
