We're recreating the Mothership board game in Godot. Follow our journey and laugh at our failures.
Mothership dev log: Got multi-ship attack working with a break down behind the scenes to show who damaged what, plus a log that will output somewhere.

Next step, producing a Game Awards ad for next year.

To all you peeps posting "just make it exist, you can make it look good later"...thank you!

It helped me stop obsessing over this movement radius graphic. It is now future me's problem (that guy is a real sucker).

See that red Mothership in the top left corner? That poor ship has been killed over and over again in the pursuit of perfecting the combat resolver. It's stuck in an 'Edge of Tomorrow' nightmare it can't escape from...

I've spent an unholy amount of time getting the tech tree working (added the board game version for context).

Trying to keep things crisp at any resolution, plus scaleable is hard and I haven't even started trying to code the damn thing together.

Mothership dev log: Spent time picking new fonts, hooking up UI elements and testing different BG's.

I'm finding video game dev is spending 90% of your time advancing one tiny feature forward (compared to board game dev)

Mothership dev log: We now have a map maker!

Custom maps was a huge part of the board game, so it was essential that it's included in the digital version. I can't wait to see maps on the steam workshop with penis' drawn from asteroids.

Mothership dev log: We got planets and we got a UI.

I'm very slowly getting my head around Godot's anchor system (it feels like my head is being dragged across broken glass).

I got the ships to face the right way, so that's pretty good. I'm starting to setup movement functions.

I'm still undecided about the thick hex outline (which matches the board game version).

Make it look later, amirte???

We got ships on the board, and they're multi-coloured!

A lot time has been spent trying to get the board to read a json file to set the size, location of ships and player counts. Pretty sure it's solid but need to add planets and other unit types.

Mothership dev log: Testing out generating asteroid and nebula spaces on the board. Who doesn't love a good brown patch?

And now a camera! You can zoom in and out. I bet you can't do THAT in a real life board game.

Mothership dev log:

Got the board to generate with axial coordinates setup. I can also check for adjacency. Expect full release by tomorrow.
