I have no suggestion worth making in reply - Wagner is long dead - so I refrained from liking the post.

This is why I was annoyed by some of the discussion of those assholes who used terms derogatory towards robots to insult someone with prosthetics: people were upset that terms disrespectful of machines were used against her, but the problem was they were assholes, not that they had anti-robot words.

Even leaving aside the Pivot To Video - is McArdle even popular to begin with, and especially as a podcaster?

I don't mean with us, but with any audience? Whom is this for?

3) The driver they shot did not have rifle, much less shoot it at them like they claimed. She did have a legal, permitted handgun that she apparently didn't touch.
4) The driver they shot drove away, stopped and collapsed in a car repair parking lot. Staff applied first aid and got her an ambulance.

As best I understand it, what really happened is:
1) At first one car and then two were following the ICE agents' car, honking to warn people they were coming. They almost certainly broke a bunch of traffic laws (not a federal crime).
2) The agents boxed in (or rammed) one car, shot at the driver.

No, this is all from an incident in Chicago in which two ICE officers shot a woman 7 times. They claimed 10 cars boxed them in and rammed their car, and they exchanged fire with a woman carrying a rifle, then drove herself to a hospital.

None of this is true.

This is an important video and you should have credited the source:

CW: protester being struck in the head by a pepper ball

Footage I took earlier of the moment Reverend David Black, a regular protester outside of the Broadview Detention Center, was shot in the head with a pepper ball by ICE agents on the roof of the facility.

To be clear: there's video and this is nonsense.

Has a single federal officer brutalizing brown people for Trump spent even one night in a hospital?

Way too blandly generous to the Idaho panhandle.

I think it was very useful and even a good idea, but not a fully formed idea. There were problems with the implementation.

People don't consent to be in them and can't remove themselves from them. Many people have suddenly gotten large numbers of followers at once who weren't familiar with their posting style, their quirks and obsessions, or their existing followers, which can lead to annoyance and even conflict.

It's even an old joke in politics, Limbaugh or his imitators were using about Clinton in the early 90s at least.

At long last we have made the starter packs, from the timeless classic "oh shit look what happens when there are starter packs".

It was the 80s. There was a baboon glut. Dirt-cheap baboons, everywhere you went. You'd go to the store for milk and wind up taking a few baboons home, wondering how it happened.

(this isn't me forcasting doom; they lack the confidence to dress up as a sparkly pink unicorn instead of dressing up as a rugged street fighter, and they'd be less useful to ICE propaganda if they did it anyhow)

Fascists have been trying to infiltrate protests as supposed anti-Trump Antifa or 'Black Bloc', hoping to incite violence and give ICE an excuse to escalate. They've been unsuccessful so far - but it's interesting to imagine them try again as giant inflatable cartoon animals.

That vision:

From what I've seen reported his 'nuanced vision of the military's purpose' was the same one that Arlo Guthrie reportedly said to the military psychologist at his physical when he was called up for the draft.
Four paragraphs of the lyrics of Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant" (1967), from a Google search, including typos copied below with a couple of the typos fixed:

Came to talk about the draft.

They got a building down New York City, it's called Whitehall Street, where you walk in, you get injected, inspected, detected, infected, neglected and selected. I went down to get my physical examination one day, and I walked in, I sat down, got good and drunk the night before, so I looked and felt my best when I went in that morning. 'Cause I wanted to look like the all-American kid from New York City, man I wanted, I wanted to feel like the all-, I wanted to be the all American kid from New York, and I walked in, sat down, I was hung down, brung down, hung up, and all kinds o' mean nasty ugly things. And I walked in and sat down and they gave me a piece of paper, said, "Kid, see the psychiatrist, room 604."

And I went up there, I said, "Shrink, I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I wanna kill. Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill, KILL, KILL." And I started jumpin up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL, " and he started jumpin up and down with me and we was both jumping up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL." And the sergeant came over, pinned a medal on me, sent me down the hall, said, "You're our boy."

Didn't feel too good about it.
