I’m about to host an event with Ben Elton, a colossally successful man whom I have never met. I would say this is more nerve-racking than doing an actual standup show (which is less scary than people imagine).

As a loyal fan, in my opinion the albums didn’t drop off that much, but it is true that both times I saw them they looked like they were maybe thinking about something else.

I know TikTok and Insta are not the whole internet. But I do hear people say every day something like 'no one wants to read posts, video is the way social media is heading'. And the way we interact with videos makes it INCREDIBLY hard to hold an audience the way, well, words used to. Still. Onwards.

One of the reasons I set up a touring company (I might have said this when we spoke) was how many schedules I'd seen put together by someone sitting in an office in London who had not, themselves, attempted to travel Hull - Brighton - Llandudno on consecutive days.
