A review for Pepper Odyssey it reads: "This oddball survival-lite adventure is slow-paced and a bit grindy, but in a zen sort of way. The gameplay loop mostly consists of exploring the different areas of the island to gather currency and supplies while making your way towards one of the game's multiple endings. The island isn't large and you'll be seeing the same locations frequently, but it's less about moving constantly forward and more about deciding what to explore and when, based on your current supplies and needs.

Combat is frequent and dangerous. Enemies can be defeated either with raw violence or with dialogue, which takes the form of reading poems, screeds, and textbooks to your opponent. I found this to be the more reliable approach, since your gun and knife will often miss, but you'll need the right literature on hand. Your approach to combat also influences your reputation, which will determine which of the game's factions will give you their endgame quest (if you decide to approach them at all - there are other endings as well).

Character progression has a few dimensions. Your base health and damage (as well as your enemies') will increase every so often during the game with an earthquake; this seems to be based on how much total scrap you accrue, but I'm not sure. Collecting different masks will give you advantages in combat, such as making certain literature more effective. There are other opportunities to become stronger here and there, as well, if you look for them.

It's not for everyone, so check out the demo if you're unsure, but the imagination and humor make it stand out. I completed one of the endings in about 6 hours, being pretty cautious and doing more grinding than I really ended up needing. I'd like to replay it at some point to check out the other endings."

Plans for the LUX Hotel area. There are sketches of events that happen there as well as chaotic notes all around. What strikes my eye is the sketch of a Hunter Chef which never ended up in the game!

Sketch of the Giant Copy Machine with some plans for attacks and a schema for emotions. There are also sketches of the Healing Mask and Sad Mask along with notes for the Field of Pillars area. Probably quite initial, they mention the Mask Trader and Thief.

A good review for pepper odyssey, an indie game: "Having played around in this world for a little bit, I must say I'm intrigued. I never play RPGs, and I seldom do point-and-click-type things, but I found the surreal old-school aesthetic charming enough to draw me in. I am undoubtedly terrible at the game but I think if it looks like your thing, you will probably enjoy it!"

I've recently played four smashing survival horror titles with (more or/and less) old skool gameplay:

The protagonist of Crow Country facing an eerie tall skeleton enemy with long limbs. The style is awesome grainy lowpoly rendering, and it's strangely cute at times.

Signalis with a tall executive cyborg(?) leaning on a counter. Startled me when I entered the room for sure but she was friendly, considering the circumstances. This game is like a blend of silent hill and metal gear.

Best written game of these four. This game has insightful writing concerning love, loneliness, sadomasochism and tyranny, I guess. The Duchess is laying on your bed trying to seduce you in her demonic form, with an unnerving pink light from an industrial window coloring her pale rubbery skin. Angels and demons bless this game.

The main character from Tormented Souls standing beside a bathtub from the beginning of the game. This game has awesome 3D rendering and great puzzles. Storywise there are some mind bending moments here, and the old hospital/mansion is interesting to explore.
