Wandoo tool handles are something else. Put this hammer on the bench, it makes a ringing sound.

I will say it again - Wandoo is twice as hard as oak.

I sometimes look at hand tool videos from the northern hemisphere - gotta take them for what they are - our wood don't carve like cheese

Next piece split off had a certain shape already, encouraged that

Made some clapsticks for the elder who was there when we salvaged the log

Given that this tree is harder than everything around it, i am keeping all of the offcuts and shavings - offcuts can be used as nails, shavings for burnishing, small chunks lathed into pulley wheels

Spent 2 hours sharpening first, then carved a 2 foot stick to see how blades and grain go.

Best way is to split the cracks and see what's happening

Other (unmeasured) trees I work with such as Moort and Ongerup White Mallee are as hard and dense as this - just not on colonial timber radar for exploitation due to workability and rarity

Wandoo is one of the hardest, densest trees on this planet, twice as hard as the stoutest northern hemisphere oak.
Working this requires hand tools that are hard and sharp.

I use drawknives, spokeshaves and card scrapers to work this wood mainly - some Japanese pull saws and a bandsaw too.
