Found this 2-novella fliparound-book at A Second Look today. Person at the counter said Thomas A. Disch would likely have been "the draw" in this pair up back in 1966! Great setup so far: a black fortress on the sea where earth colonists live draws a young explorer, yielding unexpected connections.
