The first American autism diagnosis was in 1943, and autism as an independent diagnosis was added to the DSM in 1980. Having a diagnosis available leads to, surprise, an increase in the diagnosis being used.

Just made an update on our website!
"Women with autism" has been changed to the correct verbiage of "autistic women"! I apologize again for my incorrect word choices and will actively make a conscious effort to make sure everything we publish is worded right!

I feel it's necessary to bring up the incorrect language that was used in the initial repost. I incorrectly used the phrase "people with autism", as I did not know that other members of the community did not like it and see that verbiage as a red flag.
Research shows that only ~15% of people with autism are full-time employees. This does not include undiagnosed individuals (an estimated 1% of the world's population is diagnosed with ASD).

We are burnt-out! We are tired!
Autistic people don't use burnout to be lazy. We are burnt out and struggling most of the time because the world is not designed for us.

I talk about this in my webinar about ND people in the workplace

Be autistic and proud always. <3
"Your autism doesn't define you"

Actually, every single aspect of my experience is tied to my autistic brain, and making a statement as such would imply that it's something I'm ashamed of.

Personally, I'd rather not feel shame about a core aspect of myself, as I feel life's hard enough already...

This is super impressive Dr. Tess! We would love to hear more about autistic superpowers!!

(Mine is my super-honed empathy!)
Hey #actuallyautistic folks! What's your autistic super power?!

Mine is volumetric estimation: I can fill a bucket of water from the tap, pour it into my ducks' water bowl, and achieve a perfect fit just by feel. Same for fitting leftovers into Tupperware. Or loading the car for a road trip.
