Trying not to argue with strangers on the internet
I can understand a tougher stance on asylum seekers from their perspective given its salience atm but this is so weird. I don’t see this being a politically dividing issue except literally for the far right. Part of me thinks this gov is being led by twitter opinion.

‘When the illegal invasion took place we needed more voices to criticise that’ - she literally signed Stop the War’s statement blaming NATO’s ‘eastward expansion’ for provoking Putin

The first act is by far the strongest as well which sets the rest up to feel like a bit of a let down

Fucking idiots man, all of them

Immigration is making racists angry therefore we should listen to the racists is a odd approach from a Labour gov

I wouldn’t take pieces like this seriously. I interned at a leading football platform and in pieces like this (ie every publication will do one) platforms are looking for their ‘hot take’ so theirs differentiates amongst the myriad others.

Honestly, I think a lot of these pieces/reactions are in somewhat bad faith. We’re the in vogue team to dunk on atm and they know they’ll generate interest both in opposing fans wanting to hate on us and our fans reacting against it. Polarisation sells, I think we just need to ignore it.

Just how bad was he??

Fwiw, I don’t have access to the whole article so I could be being entirely unfair based on the headline alone.
August 31, 2025 at 10:09 AM
We’re just the club to dunk on atm so this kind of sensationalism is going to generate interest. I’m sure there are a few perennial online fans who object to Arsenal’s use of NL Forever but to frame it as a ‘brutal beef’ is laughable. But here I am speaking about it so it’s clearly worked.
August 31, 2025 at 10:05 AM
Is the ‘brutal Islington/ Merseyside song beef’ actually a thing though or is this just more Arsenal centric rage bait to drive clicks at a paper very quickly spirally into tabloidism?

‘Anti Asylum Groups’. Media needs to start growing the fuck up. They’re hate groups, calling them anything else emboldens them.

I’ve said this for a while. Ref should get 10 seconds to look at something. Only full speed replay. If they can’t tell then original decision stands.

Whilst I agree with the sentiment of this, should you introduce blanket amnesty you incentivise people to make journeys on ‘small boats’. Sure, you get rid of asylum hotels but I’m not sure this solves the real political issue at hand rather just slightly shift the focus.
August 28, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Agreed, but that shouldn’t dictate the narrative of the BBC. It’s their duty to be challenging Reforms (illegal) framing.
August 27, 2025 at 11:45 AM
I may be wrong but I don’t think claiming asylum is dependent on safe route. You can come here ‘illegally’ but when you claim asylum your presence is legal as dictated by international law.
August 27, 2025 at 11:26 AM
Surely women and children fleeing the Taliban would be seeking asylum ergo not arriving ‘illegally’?
August 27, 2025 at 11:19 AM
Once we understand that Chelsea are no longer a football club and instead a private equity firm specialising in footballing assets, their approach begins to make more sense.

And destined to remain in a perpetual state of misery. Fuck em.

People are picking holes in the Eze deal??? Why are some people so insistent on depriving themselves of joy?
August 21, 2025 at 9:05 AM
I deleted twitter a long time ago and haven’t missed it at all. That being said I would very much enjoy doing a quick Eze Spurs search right now. Maybe we’ll get the best ones read out on this weeks Arsecast @arseblog.com
