We reiterate our demands for an apology, for Mr. Adams to publicy condemn Ms. Hindustani's rhetoric, and for his office to commit to a training on Hindu supremacy and its diasporic manifestations. At present, our coalition's press conference will proceed as planned at noon on Tuesday, July 15. (4/4)

Mr. Adams has neither indicated any accountability to our communities nor committed to ensuring that such a lapse in judgement is not repeated (especially considering this is the second time he has flirted with Hindutva bigotry, only to later withdraw). (3/4)

However, we are disappointed by Mr. Adams' office's attempts to obfuscate the fact that he accepted this invite without any due diligence (which was confirmed by none other than the event organizers). (2/4)

The letter demanded that Mayor Adams

1. Immediately withdraw from the event featuring Kajal Hindustani on July 16th.
2. Condemn her bigotry and assert that it has no place in New York City.
3. Apologize for his insensitivity, and commit his office to a training on Hindu supremacy.

"By extending your support to an event featuring Kajal Hindustani, a supremacist demagogue who has called for the genocide of Muslims and Christians in India, you have yet again failed to do the due diligence that your mayoral office requires,” the letter begins.

In the process, “Hindu supremacists have empowered the very right-wing forces that endanger the South Asian community, and now want us to fight each other,” said Prachi Patankar, also with the Savera coalition. But, she added, “if Hindutva wins, Hindus lose too.”
