That seems like a strange thing not to consider since presumably Hawking radiation does decrease the surface area eventually?

Ah that does make some sense. So am I wrong in some way to be picturing an object with a surface area that can’t decrease but it doesn’t decrease? I’m guessing my understanding of entropy and black holes is lacking.

I just read in an NPR article that Hawking said the surface area of black holes can never decrease. I haven’t also heard that given black holes give off hawking radiation, over ridiculous time scales they eventually “evaporate.” Those don’t seem to be concordant. And thanks!

Fair enough. I’m curious about a perceived discrepancy regarding black hole surface areas. I’m a super amateur, so mostly just curious.

I talked to someone today, which I assume based on their language use went for Trump. This person is a literal capitalist and acknowledged the tariffs would be BAD for the economy and stock market. I’m not sure how to make sense of that.
