Satellite imagery shows dense smoke over Concepción, Santa Cruz—an area repeatedly hit by wildfires. Though drought and heat amplify them, most fires are human-driven, sparked by slash-and-burn (chaqueo) land clearing for farming and grazing that often escapes control.

Over 34% of the park (~775,000 ha) burned, sparked near farms on the border.
500+ responders fought the blaze as wildlife and grazing lands were hit.

The vast sediment discharge is clearly visible, shaping coastal turbidity and influencing marine ecosystems. Cloud formations indicate active convection, typical of equatorial humidity.

Thanks! Indeed, recent reports (Greenpeace 2024; TAQA Morocco ESG 2024) identify Jorf Lasfar as one of North Africa’s largest SO₂ emitters. Satellite data occasionally show an aerosol plume distinct from dust, consistent with industrial emissions under specific wind conditions. [links/screenshots]

While exploring satellite imagery, I noticed a dark smoke trail over Jambyl Region. It revealed a grassland #fire spreading rapidly. This shows how satellites play a crucial role in detecting #wildfires, assessing their extent, and warning of potential danger.🛰🔥🚨

Penguin colonies often form near icy🧊 or rocky cliffs for protection from strong winds🌬, concealment from predators, and stable ground for nesting🐧🥚. These areas also offer quick access to the sea for feeding, making them ideal for both safety and survival.
