my new humblebrag is that in the last 6 months I've turned down both being in the macy's thanksgiving day parade and throwing the opening pitch at a red sox game

Bit of a false alarm; crowd isn’t marching yet though they are assembled in the street currently. Making speeches still.

like all days, nothing good will happen online today. the things that matter will all be in person: a gathering, a protest, a concert, advocacy, just coffee, dinner, something.

go be together today, we need our energy to survive and win.

I had a whole thread that I can't post here because it's too posting-while-trans, but hey did you know there's a bunch of queer kids out there who would love for you to come hang out with them and just get to be themselves? pretty fantastic way to feel better about the future
I shared this yesterday, but something I have found really helpful is getting out into my community and focusing on local advocacy issues. I realize not everyone can do this, but being part of something productive around issues I care about is the perfect antidote to the despair I am feeling.
Rough vibes on this website today, likely because people feel Hopeless and Helpless Because Can't Stop It and No One Who Is Supposed To Is Trying To So Now We're Fighting Each Other™. I recommend activities such as book, or potentially instrument if you like instrument, or even do talk on phone.

Featured story: On a stone slab by the cold waters of Austin’s Barton Springs, transgender Texans celebrate existence. Against the best efforts of the state, they’re still here, laughing and swimming in the heat of a late-August afternoon.
At Barton Springs, Trans Existence Becomes Resistance
Following a transphobic incident earlier this year, community members gathered to "protect trans joy."

Today is Trans Day of Remembrance. Since 31st October 2024, at least 340 trans people have lost their lives to anti-trans violence, or suicide. Transphobia kills. Please be an ally every day. tdor.translivesmatter.info/reports?from...

Harming trans kids – Using art to capture the impacts of the Sussex ICB investigation
When puberty blockers were banned in June 2024, the legislation included a clause stating that those currently on blockers would not be medically detransitioned, and could continue care if adopted …

Fantastic reporting from the @texastribune.org on the implementation of SB12 and forced social detransition in Texas schools.

The trans people in this article are so incredible for speaking out.

We found HUGE trans representation in Boston, where Senator Ed Markey gave a rousing speech with a trans flag draped over his shoulders.

"Here in Massachusetts we stand for what is right. We stand with trans people because trans rights are human rights!" said Markey. The crowd ROARED.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society
What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

Citing the “martyrdom” of Charlie Kirk, Texas AG Ken Paxton says his office is pursuing sweeping undercover investigations into “leftist” groups. “To those demented souls who seek to kill, steal, and destroy our country, know this: you cannot hide, you cannot escape, and justice is coming."
