Worth noting that most academics I know use libgen on a regular basis and some upload their own books to get around high prices set by publishers. This site didn't come out of nowhere.

I agree insofar as Meta is wrong to use libgen to create a commercial product, but I hold that libgen has an important role in freedom of information -- banned books, students priced out of textbooks, etc. I don't want people to lose sight of the fact that Meta is the evil here --

It's wild seeing the class divide so clearly illustrated in the pearl-clutching to these posts. Do they know how hard it is to find a book published >10 years ago? Most public libraries do not procure books older than a year. Many independent researchers cannot afford institutional access.
