Supersound Bass 1
The Supersound Bass was built by British luthier Jim Burns in 1958. It was the first solidbody bass made in Britain. It kinda looks like a Telecaster, but the end of the bass is almost totally flat and the cutaway horn is really pointy. It's got one pickup, one volume, and one tone control. The 2/2 split headstock keeps it from being a total Fender ripoff, and the full-fret inlays are a nice touch.

Gibson Firebird V-12
I'm a big fan of the Gibson Firebird. I thought I knew about all the different variants (bicentennial, Thunderbird, Mandobird, etc.), but I just found out Gibson made a 12-string version in 1967 and 1968. It's got the non-reverse body style. There are two mini-humbuckers, and each one has its own tone and volume control. There's also a 3-way switch. In fact, everything looks like a normal Firebird except for the 6/6 split headstock.

Warwick Adam Clayton Reverso bass
Warwick made the Reverso bass for U2 bassist Adam Clayton. It's a reversed Explorer bass with a P-pickup in the middle and active electronics. There's a volume control, a treble control, and a bass control. The volume is a push/pull bypass. The 4-in-line headstock is similar to what Warwick put on John Entwistle's signature Buzzard bass.

Fernandes ZO-3 Art Rock "Two-Heaven"
The Fernandes ZO-3 Art Rock "Two-Heaven" is a tribute to Jimmy Page. It's based on their Nomad travel guitar. It's got a 12-string and a 6-string neck, just like Jimmy's Gibson EDS-1275. There's a really nice dragon painted on the body, and what looks like Led Zeppelin's Zoso logo. It's actually been changed to Zo-san (ZO-3 in Japanese).

DeArmond Ashbory bass
The DeArmond Ashbory bass is a very small (18 inches long!) bass with nylon strings. This one is a very pleasing shade of dark blue.

Fernandes ZO-7
Most of you have heard of the Fernandes Nomad travel guitar. It's got an amp built into its small curved body, a humbucker, and a volume knob. What you may not have known is that Fernandes made a whole range of these guitars in Japan. The ZO series has everything from guitars with piezo pickups to basses to a tribute to Jimmy Page's Gibson EDS-1275 doubleneck. What I didn't know until today is that they also made a 7-string version, the ZO-7 that's in the picture above. Now you can chug on that low B string anywhere you go! I think the weirdest thing about this guitar is its 6/1 split headstock.

Fernandes PIE-ZO FL bass
I really like the Fernandes ZO series of travel guitars. Back in the 90s, whole pages of the Fernandes catalog were dedicated to different variations of them, from 7-strings to double-necks. Here's another variation: the PIE-ZO FL bass. It's basically what it sounds like: a fretless bass with a piezo pickup in the bridge. There's a volume knob and an on/off switch for the speaker.

Ampeg ASB-1 Devil bass
The Ampeg ASB-1 Devil bass has the same hardware that the AEB-1 Scroll bass I posted a few months ago has, but has a symmetrical body with two large horns. This bass also has the cool scroll headstock other Ampeg models have.

Lentini parlor guitar
I don't know too much about this Lentini parlor guitar. Their website doesn't have much info on their guitar, and even if they did, they're in Belgium, so everything would be in French. Oh well. This guitar has an asymmetrical body, where the curve for your leg is bigger than the curve on top. Instead of having one big soundhole, it's got 4 smaller ones laid out in a rough diamond pattern. There's a piezo in the bridge and controls for bass, mid, and volume on the top of the guitar. The one thing I can't explain on the guitar by saying "they wanted it to look this way" is the way the 3 frets beyond the 14th fret are angled clockwise a little bit. You'd think that would affect the intonation on those frets. I don't build guitars, though. I just post 'em.

Soon after this kid got this guitar, he met another kid who had a Canora bass, and they formed a band. You may have heard of them.
Rush on stage in the late 70s or early 80s. Alex is playing a white Gibson EDS-1275, and Geddy is playing a black Rickenbacker 4080/12.

Canora hollowbody
Here's an old picture of a young kid smiling and showing off his Christmas present, a Canora hollowbody. (I haven't been able to find the model number. Sorry!) Canora guitars were built in Japan and distributed around Canada. The hollowbody has two F-holes. It's got two single-coil pickups that are in chrome covers that fit that not-quite-a-single-coil, not-quite-a-humbucker rout that a lot of Japanese guitars had for their pickups. Each pickup has its own on-off switch, and there's one volume and one tone control.

@wtyppod.bsky.social is a podcast, but they also have a YouTube version with slides, like a PowerPoint. If I do a guitar episode, quite a few would have to be slide guitars.
